Once my gear list is more or less finished, it's important to think deeply about how the gear will be stored in my pack. Otherwise, I'll find it difficult to fit everything in, or even find it in the first place. This also gives me a sanity check for how much I'm bringing and where it'll all end up. On my shakedown hikes, I'll further refine this placement.
