Aristotle and Rationality

Aristotle was an incredibly significant figure in philosophy - primarily in ethics and logic. Though some of his theories are esoteric or factually wrong, philosophers today still take inspiration from his works. In this course, we studies Aristotle's main treatise on ethics - Niccomachean Ethics, as well as several of his  logical theories in De Interpretacion, Analytica Priora, and Analytica Posteriora. Through these lenses, we analyzed Arisotle's complex theory of happiness. To him, happiness was synonymous to the 'good,' which should be the end goal of any life. There are many characteristics that are necessary for this to be achieved - theoretical knowledge, practical knowledge, virtue, and ultimately contemplation. His ethical standards are high for the pursuit of happiness, and the logic he uses to support his claims is the basis for many subsequent schools of philosophical thought.
